HC Deb 04 May 1909 vol 4 c887
Mr. MIDDLEMORE

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether, inasmuch as on Good Friday last four battleships of the Atlantic Fleet were lying in Dover Harbour with but one attendant second-class cruiser and with no destroyers or smaller craft suitable for patrol duties, he will take steps to provide boom defence of any description for the harbour in question?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Mr. McKenna)

Sufficient precautions can be taken, pending completion of the Dover harbour works, to obviate the necessity for any such immediate provision.

Mr. MIDDLEMORE

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman whether he admits the accuracy of the statements contained in my question?

Mr. McKENNA

Yes, I believe the statement is quite true.
