HC Deb 03 May 1909 vol 4 cc731-2
Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether any action has been taken to discover and punish the murderers of the ten men of our native levies who were lately killed on the Indian frontier, and whether further murders have since been reported.

Mr. C. HOBHOUSE (In the absence of Mr. Buchanan)

No report has yet been received on the result of the inquiries being made, with a view to the necessary action, by the Government of India into the attack on a detachment of the Zhob Levy Corps on 20th April. The Government of India have reported that Captain C. W. Keene, commanding the North Waziristan Militia, was shot at and wounded by a sepoy of the corps on 27th April. The wounded officer is said to be doing well. A report that appeared in the papers recently as to an attack by Waziris on levies near Kamrudin, in which six of our men were alleged to have been killed, is said to have been officially contradicted by the Government of India.
