§ Mr. REESasked the Lord Advocate whether the Government regards it as proved that in any county in which crofters make a precarious living on their crofts the extension of deer forests is necessarily prejudicial to the welfare of the greater number, because such extension leads in some cases to the expatriation of a few crofters; and whether he can give the House any information to show to what extent such expatriation is caused by such extension, to what extent the revenues of the crofting counties are enhanced by the assessment imposed upon otherwise valueless land as deer forests, and to what extent local employment is stimulated by the extension of this sport?
§ Mr. UREWithin the limits of Parliamentary question and answer it is hardly possible for me to deal with the controversial matters raised by the hon. Member, the Government views upon which are sufficiently well known.
