HC Deb 30 March 1909 vol 3 cc183-4
Lord BALCARRES (on behalf of Mr. Claude Hay)

asked the Secretary of State for War what is the number of men, established and not established, now under notice to be discharged from work connected with Woolwich Arsenal?

The SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Mr. Haldane)

For ordnance factories and inspection, etc., the numbers are as follows:—

On establishment Nil.
Not on establishment—
Royal Gun and Carriage Factory 60
Building Department 94
Total 154

These figures do not include men leaving at their own request or one foreman to be reduced to workman, who will be discharged as foreman and re-engaged.

For the Army Ordnance Department the numbers are:—

On establishment 4
Not on establishment 43

Of these all but two who are temporarily employed and are under notice are to be discharged on account of the age limit, but have not yet actually received notice.
