HC Deb 30 March 1909 vol 3 c184
Lord BALCARRES (on behalf of Mr. Claude Hay)

asked the Secretary of State for War if he will state the total amount of canvas of every description supplied to his Department during the years 1906, 1907, and 1908; and whether this canvas was supplied by British firms and manufactured in the United Kingdom?

Mr. HALDANE

The quantities of canvas ordered by the War Department during the years 1906, 1907, and 1908 were 761,680, 732,190, and 758,800 yards respectively. The contracts contained no stipulation as to place of origin of the goods to be supplied, but as they were placed with manufacturers in the United Kingdom there appears to be no reason to suppose that the material was manufactured elsewhere.
