HC Deb 04 March 1909 vol 1 c1581
Sir HENRY CRAIK

asked the Prime Minister whether any steps have been taken towards instituting the inquiry into the necessities of the Scottish universities, in view of the marked inferiority of the grants now made to these universities, compared with those for similar objects made to Ireland and Wales, and to the provincial colleges in England?

The PRIME MINISTER (Mr. Asquith)

I am informed by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer that a Committee to inquire into the needs of the Scottish Universities is now in course of formation, and that Lord Elgin has kindly consented to act as chairman. My right hon. Friend hopes shortly to be in a position to announce the names of the other members of the Committee.
