HC Deb 04 March 1909 vol 1 c1591
Mr. CECIL HARMSWORTH

asked the Home Secretary whether before introducing a Bill to amend the Inebriates Acts, he will consider the desirability of collecting evidence, whether by means of a Select Committee or otherwise, as to the efficacy of some of the methods of drug-treatment in the cure of inebrity?

Mr. GLADSTONE

The recent Departmental Committee advised that "no good purpose could be served by making a further or more extended investigation into the value of existing methods for treatment of inebriety by the use of drugs." I concur in that opinion, and am not prepared to delay legislation, which is urgently required.
