HC Deb 04 March 1909 vol 1 cc1590-1
Mr. WILES

asked the Home Secretary whether, having regard to the difficulty passengers so often find in ascertaining cab fares, he will consider the advisability of compelling all cabs in the London district to be fitted with taximeters?

Mr. GLADSTONE

All motor cabs are required to carry a taximeter. The experiment of fixing them on horsed cabs has been tried, and for the time has proved a failure. I do not think I should be warranted in taking any action at present to compel their use.
