HC Deb 26 July 1909 vol 8 cc850-1
Mr. O'DOWD

asked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that Sir Jocelyn Gore-Booth, whose Ballymote, county Sligo, estate was sold to the tenants some five years ago under the Act of 1903, is, and has been for some time, anxious to come to an arrangement with his town tenants of Ballymote, situate on the same estate, for the purchase of their town holdings; that the Estates Commissioners agreed to send down an inspector over two years ago with the view of assisting the suggested sale; and, if so, will he arrange that such inspector be sent to Ballymote as soon as convenience may permit?

Mr. BIRRELL

I am informed by the Estates Commissioners that the agricultural portion of this estate has been sold by the owner direct to the tenants in whom the holdings have been vested. The question of the sale of the town portion of the property will be considered by the Commissioners as soon as practicable, due regard being had to the prior claims of other estates.
