HC Deb 26 July 1909 vol 8 cc830-1
Mr. MITCHELL-THOMSON (for Mr. Cochrane)

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that his Department, over 21 years ago, lent three guns to the Kilmarnock Town Council for the ornamentation of the Kay Park, and that the Department has now demanded the sum of £9 12s. as the purchase price of these old guns; and whether, as the cost of removal would probably exceed the value of the guns, he can see his way to make them a free gift?

Mr. HALDANE

These guns were lent many years ago to the Kilmarnock Corporation and were in charge of the late Ayr and Galloway Artillery Volunteer Corps. The General Officer Commanding having ascertained that the Corporation were prepared to buy them, offered them at the price specified, which was accepted by the Corporation. It is not, therefore, proposed to make them a free gift.
