asked the hon. Member for South Somerset if he can state how many cases, and in how many counties, of the stem eelworm and frit fly in oats have been reported to them; and what steps they are taking to warn farmers about it other than stating that they have leaflets on the subject?

Twenty-one cases in 11 counties have been reported to us. We issued a Press notice early this month: warning farmers that the pests mentioned I were prevalent this year, and with a view of obtaining information that may prove of service to farmers we are asking those who report the existence of the disease to supply us with full particulars as to the infestation.
