HC Deb 21 July 1909 vol 8 cc514-5
Mr. LAIDLAW

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India if he is now in a position to make a statement with regard to the Calcutta improvement scheme, especially with regard to the cost, how the money is to be raised, and what provision is to be made for the housing of the families that will be displaced in areas that have to be demolished?

The MASTER of ELIBANK

The Government of Bengal has embodied its proposals in a Bill which, the Secretary of State understands, is now before the Government of India with a view to submission to the Secretary of State. He is not at present in a position to make any statement on the subject.
