HC Deb 12 July 1909 vol 7 cc1629-30
Mr. ASHLEY

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the 27 extra reserve battalions of the Special Reserve will undertake any part of the duty of training drafts for battalions in the field in time of war, or whether they will act only as units for Home defence or to reinforce oversea garrisons or the Army in the field?

Mr. HALDANE

If the hon. Member will kindly refer to a statement which I made in Debate on Army Estimates of 27th July last he will find the functions of these 27 battalions clearly set forth, and that they are liable to supply drafts.
