HC Deb 07 July 1909 vol 7 c1184
Mr. WILLIAM REDMOND

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he can say whether any steps have been taken to include Rhodesia in the coming South African Union?

Mr. LONSDALE

asked whether the Government are aware of any negotiations for the inclusion of Rhodesia in United South Africa; and, if so, at what stage have the negotiations arrived?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Colonel Seely)

Provision with regard to the inclusion of Rhodesia at some future time is made in Clause 150 of the draft printed in Cd. 4721. I am not aware of any further steps.

Mr. WILLIAM REDMOND

Can the right hon. Gentleman state on what date the Bill for the Union of South Africa is likely to be introduced?

Colonel SEELY

I cannot say exactly. That is a question for the Patronage Secretary and the Prime Minister, but it will be towards the end of this month or the beginning of next.

Mr. WILLIAM REDMOND

Will it be introduced in the other House?

Colonel SEELY

That will be a matter of arrangement.
