HC Deb 07 July 1909 vol 7 c1189
Lord ROBERT CECIL

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been called to the proposed two processions of anti-vivisectionists; whether he is aware that for the purpose of these processions certain highly provocative banners were prepared; that the organisers of one of the processions has expressed the intention of employing certain roughs from Battersea to keep order; and whether, in view of these facts, he will take steps to prevent these processions taking place?

Mr. WALTER GUINNESS

asked whether he is aware that anti-vivisection processions have been arranged for the 10th and 24th instant, and to the fact that, with a view to preventing interruption by medical students at the proposed procession on Saturday next, arrangements have been made for the presence of a large contingent from Battersea; and whether, in view of the violence alleged against stewards from Battersea at anti-vivisection meetings, he will consider the advisability of forbidding both processions?

The SECRETARY for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Gladstone)

Processions of anti-vivisectionists are announced to take place on the 10th and 24th instant, but the police have been assured that provocative banners will not be carried. All necessary arrangements will be made by the police for the preservation of order.
