HC Deb 05 July 1909 vol 7 cc812-3
Mr. O'DOHERTY

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he could state the grounds on which the Irish Local Government Board prevented the granting of old age pensions to John Nelson, of Ballybeg, Carndonagh, county Donegal, No. 185, and John Mooney, Effishmore, Gleneely, county Donegal, No. 185, and Michael Doherty, of Carndonagh, aforesaid, No. 178; and whether these grounds were communicated to the local pensions committee?

Mr. BIRRELL

The pension awarded in each of these three cases was disallowed by the Local Government Board, as they were not satisfied that the claimants' yearly means, as calculated in accordance with section 4 of the Old Age Pensions Act, did not exceed £31 10s. The answer to the last portion of the question is in the negative.
