HC Deb 19 August 1909 vol 9 c1513
Mr. WILLIAM THORNE (for Mr. O'Grady)

asked the President of the Board of Education whether his Board has refused to allow the governor of the Queen Elizabeth's Hospital, Bristol, to meet the decrease in revenue fey further reduction in the number or scholars; whether the governors have been pressed to provide workshop and laboratory accommodation; and, if so, whether the Board are prepared to make a grant to the governors towards covering the cost of the same, and thus enable them to continue the practice hitherto adopted of providing clothing for all the scholars?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The Board of Education have not refused to allow the governors to meet the decrease in revenue in the manner mentioned in the question. The provision of workshop and laboratory accommodation was recommended in the Full Inspection Report forwarded to the governors in June, 1908, but has not since been pressed upon them. The Board have no funds at their disposal out of which to make a grant towards the provision of such accommodation.
