HC Deb 11 August 1909 vol 9 c385
Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

asked whether there had been any cessation of work at the new Government dockyard at Rosyth on account of shortage of water; and whether immediate steps would be taken to master the difficulty and accelerate the work?

Mr. McKENNA

There has been no cessation of work, but the rate of progress has been somewhat delayed by shortage of water. Every effort is being made by the contractor to obtain more water.

Major ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

Why was not this trouble foreseen?

Mr. ARTHUR FELL

Did not the Admiralty delay the works last year because they were putting down a bore-hole to arrange for the water supply?

Mr. McKENNA

I will inquire upon that point. The hon. Member must remember that this land was bought by the late Government, who, I am sure, would have made the necessary inquiries.
