HC Deb 03 August 1909 vol 8 cc1696-7
Mr. RENWICK

asked what proportion of the surplus of £257,556 unexpended from the grant of £875,000 for projectiles and ammunition (Vote 9G), 1907–8, was due to the suspension of supplies of cordite, and what proportion was due to delays in placing orders for other stores?

Mr. McKENNA

About one-third of this sum was due to the suspension of supplies of cordite.

Mr. RENWICK

asked whether the supplies of cordite which were partially suspended during the financial year 1907–8, and which suspension mainly caused a reduction of expenditure to £617,443 from £875,000 voted for the supply of projectiles and ammunition during that year, have since been fully resumed; and whether the deficiency of cordite caused by the suspension of supplies have now been fully made good?

Mr. McKENNA

The suspension of certain supplies of cordite in 1907–8 was responsible for a portion, but not the main portion of the reduction in expenditure that year. The reply to both parts of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative.
