HC Deb 27 April 1909 vol 4 c171
Mr. SEARS (on behalf of Sir George Kekewich)

asked why the scheme for the Wyggeston School, Leicester, contained a clause requiring every head master, before taking office, to sign an agreement that he would, it removed from his office, acquiesce in such removal and relinquish all claim to the mastership, seeing that no clause to the same effect appears in the scheme for the Plymouth College and Mannamead School; and which of these schemes represented, in the matter referred to, the settled policy of the Board?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Tre-velyan)

The scheme for Plymouth College and Mannamead School contains a general provision for contracts of service between the masters and Governors, and it is contemplated that acquiescence in removal would be one of the terms of the contract to be entered into by the head master. The scheme for the Wyggeston School, Leicester, contains the clause in question in order to avoid the possibility of litigation if a head master should refuse to relinquish office on dismissal.
