HC Deb 27 April 1909 vol 4 cc177-8
Mr. RENWICK

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he will state the names of the British battleships, cruisers, and scouts which, while in commission and at sea, have used Northumberland steam coal during the last six months; and what was the quantity of such coal used in each ship during the period named?

The FIRST LORD of the ADMIRALTY (Mr. McKenna)

The ships to which supplies of Northumberland steam coal were made during the six months ended 31st March, 1909, were the "Cæsar," "Hannibal," and "Majestic"; the "Jupiter" and "Prince George" also had bituminous coal in their bunkers. It is not considered to be in the public interest to furnish details of the actual consumption in ships.

Mr. RENWICK

May I ask if the right hon. Gentleman will state, without giving the quantities, whether these coals were used for a short experimental run, or for a cruise?

Mr. McKENNA

I could not answer that question without notice.
