HC Deb 27 April 1909 vol 4 cc182-3
Mr. JOHN PHILLIPS

asked the Chief Secretary if he is aware that two men named Stratford, in the employment of Harris Martin, of Lismore, county Longford, deliberately fired three revolver shots at the five sons of Henry Burke, Fiogues, Killashee, where they were working in their garden, wounding one of them; will he say what action the authorities are taking in this case; what report did the police make; will he take precautions to prevent such a class of men using revolvers in such a reckless manner in the future; and has he any official information showing that these men are paid by a society in Belfast?

Mr. BIRRELL

The two men referred to in the question have been proceeded against, and are now awaiting trial at next assizes. The case is therefore sub judice, and I cannot make any statement with regard to it, beyond saying that I am informed that none of the shots took effect.
