HC Deb 01 April 1909 vol 3 cc488-9
Mr. HAYDEN

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will state the names of the assize counties in England in which at the recent assizes judges were presented with white gloves in consequence of there being no criminal cases to be tried?

Mr. GLADSTONE

Rutland, Westmorland, and Cardigan were the only counties in which there were no prisoners for trial at the recent assizes. There were also five city or borough assizes at which there were no prisoners for trial—namely, Leicester, Lincoln, York, Carmarthen, and Haver-fordwest.
