HC Deb 27 October 1908 vol 195 c83
MR. ESSEX

I beg to ask the hon. Member for South Somerset, as representing the President of the Board of Agriculture, if he will state how many applications for small holdings in the county of Gloucestershire have been made to date; how many of such applications have been approved; how many of such applicants have been granted such small holdings; whether the compulsory powers in the Small Holdings and Allotments Acts have been put in force; and, if so, in how may cases and in what districts.

THE TREASURER OF THE HOUSEHOLD (Sir EDWARD STRACHEY, Somersetshire, S.)

548 applications for small holdings have been made in Gloucestershire, the great majority of which have been approved. The requirements of seventy of the applicants have been satisfied. Compulsory powers have not as yet been exercised in the county.

MR. JESSE COLLINGS (Birmingham, Bordesley)

Of the applicants approved, how many are bona fide agricultural labourers?

*MR. SPEAKER

Notice should be given of that Question. The hon. Gentleman could hardly be expected to answer it offhand.
