HC Deb 20 November 1908 vol 196 c1576
CAPTAIN CRAIG (Down, E.)

To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can state if income-tax is charged on the incomes of clergymen of all denominations, Protestants and Roman Catholics alike, at the same rate; and can he state the total amount received from this source from Ireland during 1907–8 from Protestant and Roman Catholic clergymen, reflectively.

(Answered by Mr. Lloyd-George.) In common with all other taxpayers, clergy of all denominations who are in receipt of incomes exceeding the exemption limit, are chargeable with income-tax at the rate in force for the time being. I am unable to give the information for which the hon. Member asks in the second part of the Question.
