SIR HERBERT ROBERTS (Denbighshire, W.)I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether the Resolution of the Government of India, dated 15th August, 1907, directing that local opinion in regard to the number and sites of liquor shops should be consulted more systematically and recorded more definitely, has been carried into effect in all the provinces of India; whether he can state in how many towns and municipalities local committees have been set up for the purpose of advising the Government upon this subject, and to what extent non-official opinion is represented upon these committees.

BUCHANANThe Secretary of State regrets that he is not in possession of the detailed information necessary for a reply to this Question, but he proposes to direct that the three points referred to by my hon. friend should receive special notice in the next annual Excise Report of each Local Government.
