§ MR. B. S. STRAUS (Tower Hamlets, Mile End)To ask the President of the Local Government Board whether he has yet been asked to sanction any work of a useful character proposed to be given by the Metropolitan borough of Stepney to the unemployed.
(Answered by Mr. John Burns.) The reply is in the negative. I understand that the Central (Unemployed) Body have been in communication with the borough council on the subject, and that the latter have expressed their regret that at this juncture they are unable to submit a suitable scheme.
