HUGH LAW (Donegal, W.)To ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether, with a view to relieving the distress consequent upon unemployment, the Irish Govern- 1678 ment propose to undertake any public works of permanent utility, such as those recommended by the recent Commissions upon Arterial Drainage and Reafforestation.
(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) The matter stands in the position outlined in my reply of 30th October to a Question on the subject asked by the hon. Member for North Kildare. The inquiries which I undertook to make on that occasion are proceeding, and it is not possible to make any further statement at present.
