HC Deb 26 May 1908 vol 189 c926
MR. BARRIE (Londonderry, N.)

To ask the Civil Lord of the Admiralty if he will state in what newspapers the Admiralty advertise forthcoming sales of warships for breaking up, tenders, surplus stores, etc.

(Answered by Mr. McKenna.) Sales of obsolete ships and of old surplus stores are advertised in newspapers of large circulation, irrespective of politics, which are considered from experience to be the best media for reaching prospective buyers. The Admiralty auctioneers make proposals before each sale as to the newspapers in which to insert advertisements, and these are approved and amended, if necessary, by the Admiralty, having regard in each case to the locality of the sale.
