HC Deb 25 May 1908 vol 189 cc746-7
MR. ASHLEY

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that there is practically no accommodation for married officers at Bulford and Tidworth where large bodies of troops are quartered, and that the same conditions prevail at the Cavalry School, Nether Avon; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy a state of affairs so unfair to the officers and detrimental to the efficiency of the service.

MR. HALDANE

I am aware that married officers find considerable difficulty in obtaining accommodation at these and other similar stations. The whole question is now receiving the consideration of the Army Council.

MR. ASHLEY

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider an offer made by a private owner of land to build the houses if the War Office will rent them?

MR. HALDANE

We have considered that.
