HC Deb 21 May 1908 vol 189 c484
MR. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN (Worcestershire, E.)

To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer what portion of the realised surplus of the year 1907–8 was due to over-issues in 1906–7.

(Answered by Mr. Lloyd-George.) The amount by which the Exchequer Issues for Supply Services in 1907–8 were reduced owing to the fact that issues had been made to Departments at the close of 1906–7 in excess of the requirements for their expenditure to that date, as subsequently ascertained, was £715,000.
