HC Deb 18 May 1908 vol 188 c1606
MR. LAIDLAW

To ask the Under-Secretary of State for India if the European officers of the Bombay City Police have yet received any increase of pay as recommended by the recent Coin mission of Inquiry; and, if not, will he state the reasons why no advance was given to the European officers when it was given to the native officers in May last.

(Answered by Mr. Buchanan.) I am not aware whether European officers have vet received an increase of pay. In view of the expense involved, it is impossible for the Government of Bombay to carry out at once all the recommendations of the Police Commission, and they are understood to be carrying out first those measures which they consider most urgent. They will no doubt deal as quickly as possible with the rest.
