§ MR. J. DEVLINTo ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can state the number of non-collegiate students who have obtained degrees in the Royal University of Ireland since its establishment; the total number examined and passed in each year; the total number of private students, and the number examined and passed in each year; the numbers of non-collegiate and private students examined and passed in each year from Dublin, Belfast, Cork, and Galway; and the numbers of collegiate students similarly examined and passed from these same centres.
(Answered by Mr. Birrell.) I have referred this Question to the secretaries of the Royal University, who inform me that no Returns classifying the students as collegiate and non-collegiate are in existence. The compilation of Returns giving the information asked for in the Question for the twenty-eight years since the University was established would, they inform me, occupy a considerable time, and could not be undertaken till the summer examinations are Over some two months hence.
