HC Deb 07 May 1908 vol 188 c429
MR. C. E. PRICE (Edinburgh, Central)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been directed to the frequency of tramway accidents from failure of brakes; and whether he proposes introducing any legislation which will render an independently-acting emergency brake, under the control of either driver or conductor, compulsory on all tramways in the United Kingdom.

THE PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY TO THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. KEARLEY,) Devonport

The whole question of tramway brakes and their efficiency is now being investigated by a Committee appointed by the Municipal Tramways Association and another by the Tramways and Light Railways Association, and when their conclusions are received as to the best form of brake the question of legislation will be dealt with.
