§ MR. REES (Montgomery Boroughs)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether the Government of India proposes to construct an approach to Calcutta from the Bengal coal fields, such as the Bishenpore-Howrah line.
§ THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (MR. BUCHANAN,) Perthshire, E.So far as I am aware there is no present intention of constructing the Bishenpore-Howrah chord or any other additional line of railway between Calcutta and the Bengal coal fields. No provision for such a line is made in the Railway Programme of the Government of India for the years 1908–11.
