HC Deb 26 March 1908 vol 186 c1565
MR. MACKARNESS

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can state the number of Chinese labourers repatriated from the Transvaal mines in the month of February, and the number of Kaffirs waiting to take their places; and whether he is aware of any complaints having been made by the mine owners of the inadequacy of the supply of native labour?

MR. CHURCHILL

3,037 Chinese were repatriated in February, and the net gain of natives during the month was 7,641. The native recruiting returns have latterly made a record, and I am not aware that complaints of the inadequacy of the supply are at present being made.
