HC Deb 26 March 1908 vol 186 c1550
MR. FIELD

To ask the Postmaster-General, whether he has received an application from the staff of the Great Southern and Western travelling post office, Ireland, that the sorting carriages might be heated during the winter months, and also for improved lavatory accommodation; whether he is aware that during the cold weather considerable suffering is experienced, that the heating apparatus runs under and not through the vehicles, and that the necessary alterations of fittings could be easily made; and whether he is prepared to accede to the request of the memoralists.

(Answered by Mr. Sydney Buxton.) I have received the application referred to. The Post Office has been in communication with the railway company as regards the provision of heating apparatus in these mail carriages, and I have given instructions for a further letter to be sent to them on the subject. I will consider the application for washing accommodation.
