HC Deb 23 March 1908 vol 186 c1050
MR. W. T. WILSON (Lancashire, Westhoughton)

To ask the Secretary to the Admiralty, whether it is the custom in the Royal Dockyards, when they are short of work in one department and busy in another, to transfer the workmen from the department that is short of work to the one that is busy; and, if so, is the custom being adhered to at Chatham at the present time.

(Answered by Mr. Edmund Robertson.) When suitable men are available, it is the practice to make transfers from one department to another to meet fluctuations in the work and to avoid discharges; but at the present time there are no workmen so transferred at Chatham.
