HC Deb 19 March 1908 vol 186 cc777-8
MR. RICHARDSON (Nottingham, S.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware that upon a man, for family reasons or otherwise, converting his business into a limited liability company he is at once disfranchised in respect to such premises; and if he will consider as to the practicability of so amending the law that a limited liability company by its directors, under its own seal, may appoint one representative who would thereupon be able to serve and vote in regard to such premises.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. JOHN BURNS,) Battersea

Perhaps I may answer this Question. I am aware that a company cannot exercise the franchise, notwithstanding that it owns or occupies premises, the ownership or occupation of which would in the case of an individual confer a right of voting; but I am not able to promise to introduce legislation on the subject.
