I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, with reference to the sum of £327,763 18s. 3d. awarded as compensation for non-renewal of licences at the supplemental meetings of the County of London Quarter Sessions on the 27th and 28th days of January, 1908, of which the sum of £46,542 was assigned to the licence holders, whether he can say, approximately, how the remainder, amounting to more than £280,000, was distributed, how many brewery and distillery companies participated in it, and what were the amounts allocated to any of these companies.

I am indebted to the clerk of the compensation authority for the County of London for the following figures:—Of the sum of £281,221 to be distributed to parties other than the licence holders, a sum of £195,376 is to go to brewers and distillers, and the remainder, £85,845, to ninety-two other parties. There are thirty-eight brewers and one distiller, each interested in from one to ten cases, and receiving total sums varying from £50 to £24,674.
