HC Deb 11 March 1908 vol 185 cc1522-3
MR. LONSDALE (Armagh, Mid.)

I beg to ask the Postmaster - General whether he is aware that a penny postal and telegraphic rate between Great Britain and France would be welcomed by commercial men in this country, and there is reason to believe would be favourably, regarded by the French Government; and whether he will consider the desirability of entering into an arrangement with the French 'Government which would tend to extend the commercial relations between the two nations.

THE POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. SYDNEY BUXTON,) Tower Hamlets, Poplar

The French post office has made no proposal to me on this subject. Such a reduction as that which the hon. Member suggests would involve a very, large sacrifice of revenue, and I am not prepared to advocate it under existing circumstances.
