HC Deb 11 March 1908 vol 185 c1526
MR. WEIR (Ross and Cromarty)

I beg to ask the Secretary for Scotland in view of the fact that it is now nearly three years since Dr. Dittmar, the medical inspector for the Local Government Board for Scotland, reported the sanitary condition of the townships in the Island of Lewis as dangerous to the public health, will he state whether he has yet succeeded in making arrangements with the Treasury such as will admit of assistance being given towards the construction of houses on new sites.

THE SECRETARY FOR SCOTLAND (Mr. SINCLAIR,) Forfarshire

No such arrangements have been made. But I am in communication with the local authority with a view to obtaining complete information as to houses of crofters and cottars in Lewis.
