HC Deb 11 March 1908 vol 185 c1546
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland if he will state the name of the present teacher of the Protestant national school at Ballinalee; whether he is aware that this teacher was dismissed from several appointments in the North of Ireland for political displays; whether his qualifications were examined before he was accredited to Ballinalee; and whether the Board will admonish him to restrain his political ardour in. that district in the interests of peace.

MR. BIRRELL

The Commissioners of National Education inform me that the only national school under Protestant managership at Ballinalee, County Longford, is Curraghcahill National School. So far as the Commissioners are aware, the present teacher of that school is Mr. James Traynor, and this teacher has not served in any national school in Ulster since 1886. He served in two schools in Antrim prior to that year, but there is no record of his having been dismissed from either of them for any reason.
