HC Deb 09 March 1908 vol 185 c1094
MR. FIELD

To ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, whether his attention has been directed to letters addressed to the Treasury Department respecting a proposed union of money-metal-producing countries to control the money-metal wealth of the three Kingdoms and the Colonies, in conjunction with the United States of America and the Republic of Mexico; and whether he would consider the advisability of forming such a union, with a view of producing greater stability in the money markets and providing sufficient metal currency for commercial wants.

(Answered by Mr. Asquith.) I have had the letters referred to in the Question before me, but I do not think it advisable to take any steps in the direction suggested.
