HC Deb 29 June 1908 vol 191 c353
MR. HAROLD COX (Preston)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has received any information as to the passing by the Government of Rhodesia of an Asiatic Registration Act imposing compulsory registration upon British-Indians domiciled in Rhodesia, of a character similar to that of the Transvaal Asiatic Law Amendment Act, 1907; and, if so, whether, in view of the resentment and opposition aroused among British-Indians by that measure, His Majesty's Government will make representations to the Government of Rhodesia as to the advisability of repealing the Act in question.

COLONEL SEELY

The Secretary of State is in communication with the High Commissioner on the subject of the Act referred to by my hon. friend.

In reply to Mr. LYNCH (Yorkshire, W. R., Ripon),

COLONEL SEELY

said he hoped to be able to give the information asked for in a few weeks.
