HC Deb 25 June 1908 vol 191 c109
MR. LONSDALE

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that at the County Court at Ennis, on 16th June, damages were awarded for the cutting off of the tails of a number of cattle; and whether in any of these cases the persons who committed the outrage were discovered and prosecuted.

MR. BIRRELL

On 12th June, at the County Court at Ennis, compensation, amounting in all to £23, was awarded to four persons for malicious injury to their cattle by cutting off portions of the animals' tails. In three of the cases the cattle were on the same farm, and the injury was committed at the same time. The offenders were not discovered in either of the cases.

MR. LONSDALE

Did not Judge Bodkin say that a more cowardly and disgraceful outrage never came before him?

MR. BIRRELL

I have no desire to quarrel with the learned Judge's language.
