LAMONTI beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether proposals have recently been made to the Government of the Leeward Islands regarding the formation of a company to build, on the land-grant system, a light railway into the interior of the island of Dominica, with a view to the development of its resources; whether negotiations are in progress; and, if so, whether the Colonial Office regards the project with a favourable eye.
§ COLONEL SEELYYes, Sir, a syndicate has been in negotiation with the Government of Dominica since about a year ago with regard to the construction of a light railway up the Layou valley. The Secretary of State regards the project favourably.
