HC Deb 27 July 1908 vol 193 cc813-4
MB. ROWLANDS (Kent, Dartford)

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, pending the Report of the Committee on the Weekly Day of Rest, he can see his way to grant the Metropolitan Police a full fortnight's holiday this year instead of the usual ten days, on account of the exceptionally heavy duties the force have been called upon to perform.

(Answered by Mr. Secretary Gladstone.) No, Sir. I should not feel justified in making any alteration in the leave of absence of the Metropolitan Police, at any rate until after the Select Committee has reported. Even the comparatively small increase suggested could not be made without raising the police rate above its present limit.
