HC Deb 22 July 1908 vol 193 cc66-7
SIR W. J. COLLINS (St. Pancras, W.)

To ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies what is the total number of Chinese indentured labourers repatriated from the Transvaal up to 30th June of this year; and what is estimated to be the number that will remain after 30th June, 1909.

(Answered by Colonel Seely). The number repatriated up to 30th June of this year must be about 40,000, and under the repatriation arrangements made by the Transvaal Government, about 5,000 may be expected to remain for repatriation about 30th June, 1909, but it is not possible to give exact figures without consulting the Transvaal Government.
