§ MR. REES (Montgomery Boroughs)To ask the Under-Secretary of State for India what are the emoluments of non-official additional members of the Governor General of India's Council, and what has been the previous calling of the members appointed during the last five years, provided, in case of the latter part of the Question, the required information is available without resort to search.
(Answered by Mr. Buchanan.) A non-official additional member of the Governor 1698 General's Legislative Council, who has to leave his ordinary residence and reside at Calcutta for the purpose of attending meetings of the Council, receives an allowance of Rs. 1,000 for each month or part of a month during which he may attend the session, plus a sum of Rs. 1,000 for travelling and other expenses incidental to a change of residence, provided that the total amount paid to a member for any one session shall not exceed Rs. 5,000. These rates also apply to members who may be specially required to attend meetings of the Council at Simla (Article 1146, Civil Service Regulations).
